Bennett overshadows our own MLA

Dear Editor:

From Kimberley through Invermere and Golden in the Rocky Mountain Trench, over Rogers Pass to Revelstoke; that domain is the constituency of MLA Norm Macdonald.

It is truly exasperating for me that the MLA for the south of us, Bill Bennett, seems to appear in photo opportunities in many of “our” communities.

He is the MLA for Kootenay East, which is not our area, Columbia-Revelstoke.

It should be recognized that Mr. Bennett — apart from his, and the current B.C. government’s misguided approval of a ski area that is not within reasonable reach of many, is based on a shrinking glacial area, and is still rather pie-in-the-sky — belongs in the southern Kootenay East area, not in the Upper Columbia Valley.

Ms Campbell, you have nailed the fact and right on the nail head. Norm MacDonald has done nothing for this area in his years in office but take a pay check and bluster and blow his own and the NDP horn. And nothing continues to happen in this valley and over in Revelstoke.
I have asked numerous people over the years, to indicate to the public, what, if anything that nothing Norm has done and I have received in response – nothing. At least that is consistant.
You are correct, Bennett truly is our real representative, on top of his other responsiblities, he is also helping this part of the Kooteny’s as well.
Not nothing Norm, that is for sure.

  2. Cheryl Willard says:

Not surprising that there is some confusion about who our MLA is. Bill Bennett has done more for our area than Norm MacDonald, who seems to have nothing more to offer than to be a critic of everything. We don’t need Mr. MacDonald’s negativity- we need someone who can get things done and bring more prosperity to Columbia River- Revelstoke. Hopefully the voters will rectify this situation in the next election.

  3. Wayne Collens says:

I think that Cheryl will get her wish that “Hopefully the voters will rectify this situation in the next election” because it will be ABL (Anyone But Liberals) in power.

  4. David R Pacey says:

Possibly Wayne, you might be correct. However, with what Do Nothing Norm has not been doing, it ( ABL) won’t be happening in the Columbia / Revelstoke area.
I have asked for possibly 5 years now, the question; what has Norm done for the areas short of talk and bluster? What of any substance has Do Nothing done? Folks have said he has done a good job of listening. So have hundreds of others done a good job of listening including my grand mother many years ago. Some have said he is a loud voice for the area. Yes, and so is my grandson. He has a very very loud voice.
And like my grandson and my grandmother, Do Nothing Norm has done nothing for the area short of trying to stifle jobs and investment in his desire for the ” environmental” vote. Self serving? I think so.
So I will ask you as well Wayne Collens, what has Do Nothing done short of talk and talk and talk?
    Please tell us what.
