The Columbia Valley RCMP Detachment along with Fire Emergency and BC Ambulance responded to a two-vehicle accident on Wednesday, October 21st involving a 2014 Volvo commercial vehicle driven by a 41-year-old male from Abbotsford hauling lumber and a 2008 GMC Sierra driven by a 79-year-old male from Canal Flats.

The 2008 GMC Sierra was travelling southbound on Highway 93/95 four kilometres north of Canal Flats when it was observed by witnesses to enter the northbound lane colliding with the northbound semi.

The 79-year-old driver of the GMC died as a result of his injuries while being transported to Cranbrook hospital. The driver of the semi was also taken to Cranbrook hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The Columbia Valley RCMP Detachment is being assisted by an RCMP Traffic Analyst from Cranbrook.

The Columbia Valley Detachment is continuing with the investigation assisting the BC Coroners office.
