There has been no shortage of interest when it comes to digging into the importance of soil this season.

To mark the United Nations Year of Soil, the Groundswell Network is offering a selection of local foods from some of the finest chefs in the Columbia Valley with live music from Shred Kelly and Magnolia Buckskin at the Bi-Annual Celebration at 7 p.m. at Winderberry Nursery on October 10th.

We do a palooza celebration every second year, and its also a fundraiser for our programming, said Ally Candy, programs and events co-ordinator at Groundswell Network. Its a fantastic party with great food. We have chefs from all over the valley setting up tables and serving food in a beautifully lit greenhouse with two fantastic bands.

In addition, there will be a cash bar for people to indulge in a wide variety of drinks.

Fernie-based folk band, Shred Kelly, and Calgary-based folk band, Magnolia Buckskin, will offer tunes to fit the festivities.

Theyre pretty awesome crossover bands with lots of folk and a really nice blend of lots of instruments with great vocals, too, she said.

People can pick and choose different foods from each participating vendor, which is included in the cost of a ticket.

Weve got a lot of great food coming from local sources, which is a great way to celebrate soil, said Ms. Candy. And there will be people dressed up as different soil creatures. Theres also prizes for people who have good costumes.

While the costumes remain a surprise for guests to learn about that night, Ms. Candy added there would be a plethora of creativity on tap.

We hear theres maybe going to be someone dressed up as a micro-fungi, she concluded. There will be lots of fun stuff like that.

There will be $55 tickets for Soil Palooza being sold at Circle Health Foods, Circle Cafe and Edibles Cafe. The cost of a ticket to Soil Palooza includes a $20 annual membership to the Groundswell Network.

We always sell out, so its best to buy a ticket in advance, said Ms. Candy.
