A vehicle accident temporarily shut down Highway 93 South through Kootenay National Park earlier today. By 4:30 p.m. the highway was open again for alternating single lane traffic at the accident site.

The incident occurred on the stretch of the highway that runs parallel to the Kootenay River, between the turnoff to Settlers Road and the Dolly Varden day use area. Unconfirmed reports indicate at least two vehicles were involved in a collision resulting in undetermined injuries.

Further details about the accident were not available from official sources, aside from Alberta RCMP confirming to Banff media that the Banff RCMP had been called to help the Columbia Valley RCMP with the incident.

Social media buzzed with reports of ambulance and police leaving Invermere around mid-afternoon but the Pioneer could not verify these accounts with official sources.

The Pioneer is awaiting more details from RCMP.
