Following anecdotal reports of a skier or snowboarder falling off the chairlift at Panorama Mountain Resort over the weekend, the Pioneer contacted the resort to verify these accounts.

“I can confirm a guest fell off the chairlift on the Mile One Quad at approximately 12:45 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 27,” Panorama President and Chief Executive Officer Steve Paccagnan told the Pioneer, on Monday, Feb. 28, reading a prepared statement.

Paccagnan added that Panorama’s pro patrol and mountain safety team responded to the incident immediately and arranged for the guest to be transferred to a higher level of care at the local hospital by helicopter as quickly and safely as possible.

“The incident is being further reviewed by our team,” said Paccagnan.

Further details about the incident were not given in the statement, including the age of the guest, or whether the guest fell at a point at which the chairlift is relatively high off the ground or relatively close to the ground (such as near the loading or unloading spots), with Paccagnan noting that the resort did not want to comment further out of respect for the guest and the guest’s family.

Paccagnan expressed well wishes to the guest and family on behalf of the resort and all its staff.
