The holidays may have passed, but the Kootenay Saving Community Foundation is still glowing with Christmas spirit, having just handed out a bunch of donations.

The credit union dished out more than $30,000 in donations, including $3,500 for the Columbia Valley Community Foundation.

Several other community foundations around the Kootenay region also received donations, including the Community Foundation of Castlegar and District ($4,100); the Community Fund of North Kootenay Lake ($2,200); Kimberley and District Community Foundation ($3,700) and the LeRoi Community Foundation ($8,200).

The Kootenay Saving Community Foundation was established by the Kootenay Savings Credit Union in 2000, with the aim of supporting non-profit cultural, economic, educational, environmental, health and social projects, and has since gone on to distribute more than $4.1 million in grants, endowments and bursaries

The credit union is a member-owned financial co-operative with eleven branches throughout the Kootenay, including a branch here in Invermere, as well as its head offices in Trail. It has more than $1 billion in assets, 39,000 members and more than 200 employees.
