A local male driver died in a two-vehicle collision on Highway 93/95 on Saturday.

Columbia Valley RCMP responded to the incident north of Canal Flats where a northbound pickup truck crossed the centre lane into the path of a southbound semi-tractor trailer.

“Sadly, the local male driver of the pickup succumbed to his injuries on scene,” said Sgt. Ed deJong. “Alcohol and speed were not considered factors in the collision; however, driver fatigue may have contributed.”

No further information was released by police.

On the evening of April 23, the Columbia Valley RCMP responded to a collision on Hwy 93/95 between Fairmont Hot Springs and Windermere. Upon arrival, police learned that a northbound SUV had crossed into an oncoming southbound cement truck, striking the truck in the front axle area.

The driver of the SUV was transported by STARS Air Ambulance with serious but non life-threatening injuries, while the passenger was taken to the Invermere hospital with minor injuries. Police report the driver of the cement truck was uninjured.

The investigation is ongoing; however, neither speed nor alcohol were factors in the collision, according to police officials.
