Fire crews continue to make progress in the Madias Creek wildfire, which has prompted the rescinding of all evacuation alerts.

“Our crews continue to do regular patrols to identify and deal with hot spots within the fire’s perimeter,” says Regional Emergency Operations Centre information officer Loree Duczek. “Over the past few days we have had some challenging weather conditions including strong sustained winds and even stronger gusts and the fire has stayed within its existing boundaries and has not experienced any growth,” she added.

The fire is still being held at 2.11 hectares.

The alert within the RDEK affected 73 civic addresses in the Crooked Tree and Elkhorn areas.

The evacuation Alert issued by the ?akisq?nuk First Nation Chief and Council for the entirety of the ?akisq?nuk First Nation reserve is also being rescinded.

Elsewhere in the RDEK, the evacuation orders for six properties in the Whiteswan Area and nine properties in the Palliser/Cross River area remain in effect.
