A mining truck accident blocked the highway in Kootenay National Park on November 5, but not injuries were reported.
Columbia Valley RCMP reported that the driver drifted onto the right shoulder, then overcorrected, causing it to go into the opposite ditch and block the highway for a period of time.
“There were no injuries and no other vehicles involved in the collision,” said Sgt. Ed deJong.
Highway 93 was reopened shortly after a heavy tow truck arrived on scene.
Witness Joe Lucas told the Pioneer that a mine truck was travelling east when the driver lost control, went into a ditch and then came back up to settle across the highway.
“Fortunately there were no vehicles coming the other way and no one was hurt,” Lucas said.
He noted that two massive tow trucks managed to get the vehicle back on the highway without dumping its load.
“The driver was extremely lucky,” Lucas said, adding there was only a bit of damage, including the loss of three tires.
