The RCMP has confirmed that a man who went missing on Lake Windermere on Sept. 16 has been found deceased.

“Our condolences go out to the friends and family,” said RCMP media relations officer Cpl. James Grandy.

The death is not considered suspicious, the officer stated.

On September 16th at 3 p.m., emergency crews responded to a report of a 26-year-old man who had presumably drowned while swimming in Lake Windermere.

The man was on the lake with his friends, and was seen to be in distress while swimming. Soon after, the man went under water and did not resurface,” Grandy said.

The RCMP was joined by Windermere firefighters and search and rescue crews but they were unable to find the man. However, a dive team subsequently found the body.

The BC Coroner Service is now investigating the death.

Police did not identify the victim, but national and local news media have reported the name of the deceased as Hussein Omairi.

No further information will be released by police out of respect for the family.
