During winter months, Mainroad East Kootenay Contracting crews are out patrolling regional highways applying brine and de-icing salt.

Regional highway maintenance contractor forecasts sigificant snowfall

Heaviest snowfall accumulation to occur in southern part of contractor’s service area

More snow is on the way within the next 24 hours, according to forecasting by the regional highway maintenance contractor.

Mainroad East Kootenay Contracting says it is expecting moderate snowfall accumulations on Monday night, with the most sigificant amounts to pile up in the southernmost parts of its jurisdiction, which stretches north to Radium, west to Yahk, and along the U.S. and Alberta borders.

It’s expected that the snowfall will taper off to flurries on Tuesday.

Mainroad is encouraging drivers to be prepared for winter conditions and allow for more travel time.

During and after snowfall, the company says it will have crews applying anti-icing chemicals and winter abrasive, along with conducting snow removal operations.

Environment Canada is forecasting two centimetres of snow in Cranbrook on Monday night, with up to four centimetres on Tuesday.
