Edward Steel

February 17, 1939 – February 27, 2019
Ed Steel was born in Irricana, Alberta to Matt and Madge Steel and passed away peacefully in Invermere, BC. He was pre-deceased by his sister, Elaine Ramsay. Ed was survived by his wife, Suzanne of 58 years, and his sons Kenny (Susan), Brian (Carmela) and daughter Shelley (Steve). Ed was very proud of his family and his 8 grandchildren.

Surveying brought Ed to the Windermere Valley in 1958 where he met his future wife Suzanne. They were married 2 years later and enjoyed raising their family in Invermere.

Ed enjoyed every season in Invermere. Gardening in the spring, fishing, camping, baseball and golf in the summer, hunting in the fall and curling in the winter. Ed owned and operated 3 pubs, The Coronation Hotel, The Lakeside Inn (one of the first “trial” pubs allowed in BC) and finally The Station Pub. He loved providing a place everyone could gather to share good times.

Ed was a proud member of the community for almost 60 years, creating many life long friends along the way. Over the years he enjoyed coaching little league and curling. He sponsored many sports teams and events, proceeds of which went back to the community. In his later years he enjoyed donating his garden to the local elementary school students.

The family would like thank the care givers in Invermere and Cranbrook. We are especially grateful for the wonderful care he received at Ivy House.

There will be a Celebration of Ed’s Life at The Station Pub on

Friday, March 29th (2-4). Please join the family and share some “Ed” stories.
