Black, Milton James
We sadly announce the passing of Milt Black Sept. 8, 2023. Born in St Boniface, Manitoba June 20, 1949 to Hazel Stroud Black (nee Cober) and David James Black, he leaves ex-wife Sigrid Barbara Black (nee Gollub), sisters Beverley McLeod and Maureen Olson, their children and grandchildren.
Milt was 36th NHL draft pick in 1969, for the Chicago Black Hawks. When the Winnipeg Jets built their first WHA team in 1972, hometown boy Milt was recruited with other greats like Bobby Hull. After 3 seasons, Milt played in Sweden and Germany. His points record for Augsburg EV remains unbeaten. After a career-ending leg injury Milt settled in Matlock, then fulfilled his dreams by moving to Invermere BC to work at Panorama Ski Resort and Radium Golf Course.
A gentle soul, his deep love of music could bring him to tears. He loved to laugh and found humour in many everyday situations. His famous appetite ranged from choice steaks to Kraft dinner. He loved a simple life: spending active time outdoors hiking, skiing, and golfing, or with family and friends, including his 3 best friends, Sigrid Black, Alexander Dryburgh and Rick Wagner.
He will be missed, but his memory will inspire us to be our best, do what we love, savour times with loved ones, and embrace the simple things in life. See https://mcphersonfh.com/tribute/details/3674/Milton-Black/ obituary.html#tribute-start
