Ruth Elizabeth Gordon, a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away on April 3, 2025, at the Invermere Hospital, surrounded by her loving family. She was predeceased by her husband, George Gordon, in December, 2024.
Her children survive Ruth: Don, Doug (Genene), Jill (Joe), John, Dianne (Roy), Donna (George), and Laura. She cherished her role as a grandmother to Wesley, Jessolyn, Tyler, Curtis, Noel, Aaron, Maren, Jennifer, Michael, and Brian. She was a loving greatgrandmother to eight great-grandchildren: Nevaeh, Aubrey, Hunter, Isabelle, Ryleigh, Lexx, Wyatt, Chephren, Rylan, Kaleah and Braydi. Ruth was also predeceased by her grandchildren, Erik and Ben.
Born in Evanston, Illinois in 1935, Ruthimmigrated to Canada in 1955. As a devotedmother of four, she returned to postsecondaryeducation to graduate as agraphic artist. Ruth was a gifted artist whosebeautiful projects enriched the Invermerecommunity. After retiring to the valley fromCalgary, she and George became activecommunity members, enjoying outdoor activities with friends and family.
An avid golfer, Ruth was well-known around the Invermere and area golf courses. She competed in numerous tournaments and was honored to represent seniors at the 55-plus BC Summer Games in 2019, winning gold in her age group. Additionally, she participated in the Canada Summer Games and the Tiger Woods Open, leaving a lasting legacy in the local sports community.
Ruth expressed praise and gratitude to the Windermere Valley Auxiliary for the availability of the refurbished rooms 6 and 7 in the palliative care unit where she enjoyed the company of family and friends in her final days.
The family also wishes to express heartfelt gratitude and thank you to Dr. Walsh and the team of dedicated staff at the Invermere Hospital. Ruth’s care was exceptional. She also expressed how much she appreciated the love and care from her close friendship with Linda, Carol, and Pat during her final weeks. Ruth’s love, creativity, and vibrant spirit will be deeply missed but, forever cherished by all who knew her.
