March 28, 1948 — February 2, 2025
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Maxine Hayward on February 2, 2025 after a brief battle with cancer.
Maxine was born in Calgary on March 28, 1948, to Irving and Annie Tangan, the third of four sisters. Maxine met her late husband, Howard, in 1968 and they were married on April 16, 1971.
Maxine and Howard fell in love with the beauty of the Columbia Valley and made it their home. Maxine worked at the Invermere Regional Hospital for many years as the Assistant to the Director before she started her next endeavour, life as a mother. Howard and Maxine welcomed their first child, Tia, in 1979, and their second, Trevor, in 1982.
Maxine was known as a devoted mother, a loyal wife, and a caring and supportive friend. Their home was always a welcoming hub for family and friends to gather together.
Maxine had a deep love for spiritual things and was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses in 1973. Her faith never wavered despite the ups and downs that life threw at her. She lost her right eye in a previous battle with cancer, but always kept a positive attitude. It was her deep conviction in the Bible’s promise of a beautiful future for mankind that helped bring her peace right up until her death, where she was surrounded by her loved ones.
Maxine was predeceased by her parents and husband. She is survived by her children, Tia (Terry) and Trevor (Carmen), and grandchildren Taryn (Sydney), Teagan (Oliver), Ava, Jace, and Cole.
She is also survived by her sisters Beverly, Delores, and Leona (Gordon), her nephews Sheldon (Sheri) and Shane, and her stepdaughters Tina and Theresa (Dave) and their families.
Her funeral service will take place at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Invermere on March 8, 2025 at 2pm MST. All are welcome to attend. There is also an option to join us remotely via Zoom:
