Hiram Cody Tegart

April 18th, 2018

Hiram Cody Tegart, the last of the true mountain men, passed away peacefully on April 18th, 2018 at the age of 67 surrounded by loved ones.

He is survived by his three loving daughters and seven granddaughters. He was known widely for his infectious laugh, and unbelievable but surprisingly accurate, stories of adventure in the Rockies. A true cowboy, Cody could be found leading a pack string to one of the old cabins in the height of the Rockies Provincial Park. Well known as an incredible hunting guide, if there was wild game to be found, Cody could track it. In seemingly total irony he was also an enormous advocate for conservation of the long term flora and fauna of the Columbia Valley.

He not only was an avid hunter, he was also a logger, trapper, taxidermist, bull-rider, story teller, and genuine friend to many. He used many lost, old, cowboy expressions and one of his favorites was to “Never say WHOAH in a mud-hole”. It meant something different for everyone and no one was really quite sure what it meant. Regardless, his expressions, along with Cody himself, will never be forgotten. He loved the mountains and he will be riding and chasing game forever more.

Rest easy cowboy.

We invite you all to the celebration of his incredible life on Saturday, April 28th, at 4 pm at the Columbia Valley Centre, at 646, 4th St. Invermere, B.C. We hope you can all join us.
