Irene passed away peacefully, Thursday, August 26, 2010, at the age of 87, joining her husband Buaye and her son Robert. She is survived by her daughters Anne Futa, Shizu Futa, Jean Futa (Don and Terry); her grandson Justin Futa (Sarah); sister Eleanor Maruno in Ontario; her sister-in law Miyo Tsuchiya (George) in Vancouver, and her nieces and nephews.

Irene was a gentle soul who liked to sing, preferred to be happy, and loved babies, kittens, puppies – and all “little ones”.

In her later years, Irene found some dear friends. They were very special to her and she always looked forward to seeing them. She enjoyed companionship, entertainment, and truly wonderful care at Columbia House.

Thank you to all the staff and volunteers of Columbia House for giving joy and meaning to Irene’s last few years. Thank you also to Dr. Dibb for taking time and for caring; and to the drivers of the Columbia Valley Community Bus whose special attention and service let Irene travel in comfort and style.
