MacDonald, Stewart Ross

Loving memory of Ross MacDonald, who passed in the early hours of June 8.

Across a Parks Canada career spanning thirty four years, Ross’ proudest accomplishment was the David Thompson Bicentennial Celebration which he co-created and stewarded for over a decade. The Celebration commemorated Canada’s history, built on the influence of place and people. It included international projects, documentaries, books, scholarly work, events in dozens of communities, and two cross-country canoe trips.

Recent years have seen Ross take on the role of Festival President for Wings Over the Rockies Nature Festival, among the largest nature festivals in Canada. This year the festival hosted more than 100 events over seven days.

Those who knew Ross will remember his quick wit, infectious laugh, and a life-long passion for photography. He was never more alive than behind a camera.

Ross is survived by wife (Eloise), son (Bren), brothers (Neil and Bruce), niece (Shauna), and nephew (Evan).

At his request a formal service will not be held, but those wanting to honour Ross are invited to plant a tree in his memory.
