March 25, 1962 - February 25, 2025

It is with a heavy heart and tremendous sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved husband, father & Papa, Ken McDonell. Ken passed away on February 25 in Mexico with his loving wife by his side. Mexico was their getaway place where they spent many days enjoying the sunshine, beach and many new friends.

Ken was born in Dawson Creek, BC and grew up in Fort Nelson, BC where he met his high school sweetheart Barb. At 16 years old, Ken began his public works career as a general labourer for the town of Fort Nelson. After spending 13 years in Fort Nelson Public Works, he pursued a Superintendent of Public Works position and relocated his family to Radium Hot Springs where he was instrumental in creating the Public Works department for the Village of Radium Hot Springs. Ken retired in 2017, after 26 years of service with the Village of Radium Hot Springs.

Ken lived his life to the fullest and enjoyed it in his own way. Family was very important to him. He was a great father and grandfather who loved to celebrate all the milestones in life, which included making his children's and grandchildren's memorable, works of art birthday cakes. Ken spent his life being involved in the community of both the towns he called home, Fort Nelson and then Radium Hot Springs volunteering his time and service. He was active for many years in the Elks Club, Curling Club, Sia-Pitch league and Pool 8-ball league. Some hobbies he loved to enjoy alone and with his friends and family were golfing, ball, camping, fishing, side by side, baking and cake decorating.

It was through his love of life and his contagious sense of humour that led people to love him. Ken will leave a huge hole in our hearts and lives, and we know that his spirit is free and soaring above us. Ken leaves to mourn his wife Barb, his daughter Jillian, his grandchildren Mackenzie, Saxyn, Matyx, many nieces, nephews and many more extended family members. He was predeceased by his son Cody, his parents Duncan & Mary Louise McDonell, his brothers Robert and Bernard.
