This past week, January 3rd through January 9th the Columbia Valley RCMP responded to 47 calls for service. The following is a summary of some of the files our officers responded to.

• On Wednesday, January 5 at 1:30 a.m., Columbia Valley RCMP received a report of a break and enter in progress at a gas station in Radium Hot Springs. Officers immediately attended the business and located a set of footprints in the snow leading away from the scene. Officers followed the footprints to a residence in Radium Hot Springs where an adult male was arrested for break and enter, theft and mischief. Evidence of the offence was also recovered at the residence. The male was released on conditions to attend court on a later date.

• On Wednesday, January 5, a resident on Highway 93 in Radium Hot Springs discovered several windows in her truck had been broken sometime overnight. An officer viewed surveillance video footage of the incident and was able to identify the suspect. Charges of mischief are being recommended against an adult male.

• On Thursday, January 6 at about 3:45 p.m., emergency crews responded to a two vehicle collision on Highway 95 near Edgewater. The driver of a Mitsubishi Eclipse attempted to avoid a commercial transport truck that had come to a stop on the highway but was unable to stop in time and collided into the trailer of the commercial transport truck. The driver and a passenger of the Mitsubishi were transported to the hospital with minor injuries.

• On Friday, January 7, Columbia Valley RCMP responded to a single vehicle collision on Highway 93 in Kootenay National Park. The driver of an Oldsmobile 88 lost control of his vehicle and collided with a concrete barrier. The driver suffered minor injuries. An inspection of the vehicle led officers to believe inadequate tires were a contributing factor to the crash. The driver was issued a violation ticket for failing to have properly equipped tires while crossing a mountain pass.

• On Sunday, January 9, a resident on Radium Golf Course Road in Radium Hot Springs discovered someone had stolen the catalytic converter from her Honda CRV sometime overnight.
