A spring search for Elizabeth Stewart, who was reported as missing on February 11th, 2019, has not resulted in any clues.
“Now that the snow is gone, it was our intention just to get the search crew out again into any of the areas that she had been known to frequent in the past or walk near. There’s nothing that points us to any one area, but we just want to do everything we can,” said Sgt. Darren Kakuno. “Unfortunately we didn’t find anything with links to her.”
While the renewed search effort – which involved Columbia Valley Search and Rescue (CVSAR) scouring open fields in the Invermere area – didn’t result in any new leads, Sgt. Kakuno said it provided a valuable training opportunity for the volunteers.
“They need to train anyway in these different search procedures, but what better way to do it than to continue to choose areas where a missing (person) may have walked through in the past,” he said.
Sgt. Kakuno said he appreciates CVSAR’s help as well as the support and tips the public have shared.
“These files [for missing people] are never concluded. If any information comes up… we’ll certainly revisit it,” he said. “What we really hope for is that we’ll find her alive and well, but in any case we’d just like to find her.”
Foul play is not suspected.
Ms. Stewart, who was 76 at the time of her disappearance, was last seen wearing a two-tone grey jacket and black pants. Anyone who has information on Ms. Stewart’s disappearance is welcome to call the Columbia Valley RCMP at 250-342-9292.
