Dear Editor:
Today the TV program Working Dogs featured the Town of Banffs urban elk problem. The park warden, having exhausted all other avenues (including flare guns), resorted to the use of two Alberta farm dogs (border collies trained to herd sheep).
It was cheap, effective, quiet (no barking) and environmentally friendly. Perhaps Mayor Gerry Taft and council might speak to Parks Canada in Banff and further explore this option with respect to Invermeres urban deer problems. If it were to work, it would be the best of all solutions offered to date.
