Columbia Valley Pioneer staff
The BC Wildfire Service is responding to a wildfire approximately 16.5 kilometres south of Canal Flats.
The Island Pond wildfire is estimated to be 10 hectares in size and is burning at rank 5, meaning it is extremely vigorous with a fast rate of spread.
Crews and air support have been called. The fire is burning adjacent to Highway 93/95, although vehicle travel is not currently impacted.
The cause is suspected to be lightning.
