In last week’s edition the Pioneer ran a news report about??akisq’nuk First Nation (?AFN)’s appeal of a dredging project at Trethewey marina on the east side of Lake Windermere.

In reporting on the story, the Pioneer reached out to the Ministry of Water, Land and Resource Stewardship (WLRS), which approved the dredging project. The ministry had not responded by press time, but it did in writing several days later:

“This decision is currently in the appeal process with the environmental appeals board, therefore it would not be appropriate to comment on the details of the decision at this time.”

The ministry also noted that its Kootenay Boundary region authorizations team is “aware of the concerns raised by ?akisq’nuk and is continuing dialogue with them regarding managing the impacts related to marina dredging and stewardship of Lake Windermere.”
